Hidden Star Wars Battlefront 2 Character Customization Menu Discovered In Possible Leak
Star Wars Battlefront II players may soon get the chance to customize their characters. A video has been leaked of a character customization menu not currently found in the game.
The leak was published by a Redditor named uninspired_zebra, who has a history of obtaining Battlefront 2 information early through datamining. It shows the PC version of the game having a Change Appearance option in the Assault character class. This menu isn’t currently available in the game.
Within the Assault class, the leaked video shows a player customizing the class’s appearance across the game’s six factions. By clicking on the Galactic Republic faction, it opens up a menu with a host of skins to choose from. The player then does the same thing for the Rebel Alliance. You can watch the video below, and uninspired_zebra has also shared a few images of the other classes here.
Battlefront 2’s developers had previously said they were considering character customization options for the game, but there were none included at launch. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen has said the company’s ability to introduce cosmetic customizations is limited in the game because of the unique challenges of working within the Star Wars canon.
“It’s an amazing brand that’s been built over many, many years. So if you did a bunch of cosmetic things, you might start to violate the canon. Darth Vader in white probably doesn’t make sense, versus in black. Not to mention you probably don’t want Darth Vader in pink. No offense to pink, but I don’t think that’s right in the canon,” he said at the Credit Suisse Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, EA made the surprise move of pulling all microtransactions out of Star Wars Battlefront II just hours before its release. This follows concerns and criticism from fans, worried the loot crate system essentially made the game “pay-to-win.” There is now speculation that the previous microtransaction system, which focuses on abilities and buffs, will be replaced with an Overwatch-style system of cosmetic-only purchases.
